WSUS 3.0 with SP2 Will Not Update a Server 2012 System
I ran into another gotcha with WSUS this month as we recently upgraded a couple of our hyper-v systems to Server 2012 and then they would no longer communicate with the WSUS server successfully. Each time you tried to Check for Updates it would fail with the error: 800b0001
With some diligence I ran across this fairly simple fix:
1.) There is an update for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 with SP1; KB2734608.
2.) You must apply this update to your WSUS server
3.) Then do allow a full sync to complete with Microsoft's Update Servers
4.) If your Server 2012 or Windows 8 system has already synced with this server then you must:
***From an elevate command prompt
a.)net stop wuauserv
b.)rd /s %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
c.)net start wuauserv
5.) Now you should be able to check for and obtain updates from the Server 2008 R2 WSUS server
